What Is Mavan Dhiyan Satkar Yojana?

The scheme was announced in Punjab’s 2026-27 budget on International Women’s Day, 8 March 2026. It was a promise made ahead of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha election due in 2027. The idea is a universal cash transfer: instead of narrow income-based targeting, almost every adult woman in the state receives a monthly amount in her own bank account.

According to Punjab’s Finance Minister, this is among the first universal cash transfer schemes for women anywhere in the world, and its coverage of about 97% of Punjab’s women is the highest in India. There is no income limit for applicants.

How Much Money Will You Get?

  • General and OBC women: ₹1,000 per month
  • SC women: ₹1,500 per month
  • First instalment from 1 July 2026: the source reports that the first release covered three months, which works out to ₹3,000 for general category women and ₹4,500 for SC women

The amount is paid by Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) into the beneficiary’s bank account. Reports mention around 50 lakh women had already registered at that stage.
